June 6, 2009 during final walk, after Church
memorial, to Veye Yo behind hearse that carried Father Jean
Juste's body.
Mourners walked the eight blocks from the Notre Dame D'Haiti
Catholic Center on 63 Street to Father Jean Juste's Veye Yo
headquarters on 54th Street for a final farewell. The body was
intended to be laid at Veye Yo before being returned to the
funeral home until shipped to Haiti for a June 18, 2009 burial,
but the coffin could not get through the door. An open-door
presentation, fellowship with refreshments, followed for the
entire community right in front of Veye Yo, after the Church
memorial and final walk as had been going on, for over a week,
since the announcement of Father Jean Juste's passing. Meanwhile,
those who stayed or returned to the Notre Dame D'Haiti Catholic
Center were also provided with fellowship and refreshments in
a tent set up outside the church. The Emmanuel Funeral Home
provided free funeral services and the limousines that accompanied
the hearst procession down the eight blocks.
